News and Notes

Last week, a rumor landed online that had stated Thor might be facing off against Dark Elves in the upcoming sequel, Thor: The Dark World. Today, the reveal of a new location and scene details may confirm who the film's villains are. According to a notice sent out to residents of Bourne Wood, England, filming will begin nearby during August and September. The notice refers to the production as Thursday Morning, in hopes that no one would figure out "Thursday" comes from the Old Norse word Thor's Day. You can read the notice here, though I suppose it could qualify as a spoiler, so consider yourself warned.

It has been over a year and a half since Will Smith and Jay-Z first announced that they would be rebooting the classic movie Annie with Smith's daughter Willow in the title role. Since then, the project has been stuck in the scripting phase. Now Smith is bringing in The Devil Wears Prada scribe Aline McKenna to take a stab at rewriting the classic movie. There's still no director attached to the film, though Glee's Ryan Murphy was sought after when Emma Thompson was first writing the script. Talks have since broken off. Jay-Z's involvement is, appropriately, on the music side, so expect to hear a remix of The Sun Will Come Out (Ghetto Anthem) whenever this film arrives in theaters.

Fast Six is taking a page out of the Michael Bay playbook and adding a model to their already expansive cast. English model Clara Paget (see pic below) has been cast in a sidekick role described as "a gun-slinging action woman." Paget joins new additions Gina Carano and Luke Evans as the villain. Fast Six hits theaters May 24, 2013.

The parents of stuntman Kun Liu, who was killed while working on The Expendables 2, have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the movie's stunt co-ordinator, Millennium and Nu Image Films. Liu was killed last October in Bulgaria during a boating sequence. Another stuntman was injured in the accident. [E! Online]

J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk have hired Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk) to pen Earthquake. The film is not a remake of the 1974 version that starred Charlton Heston, but rather "a fresh take on the natural disaster fare." Earthquake will be competing with New Line's ground-shaking project San Andreas 3D.

Speaking of disaster movies, Ridley Scott is planning a film that poses the question, "What would happen if the world's transportation systems came to a halt?" The film is based on a fictional BBC documentary from 2003 called The Day Britain Stopped. The obvious answer here is that more people would be walking and riding bicycles, be in better shape and island tourism would drop sharply.

Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master has been bumped up to September 14th while Killing Them Softly starring Brad Pitt, Ray Liotta, Richard Jenkins was bumped back to October 19th. [Variety]

Keira Knightley spoke to Empire about wanting to avoid doing blockbuster movies in the future, saying she hates the constant public scrutiny. "It comes to a point where you think: 'What kind of film can I make that will allow me to live a proper life?'… those tent-pole movies make it difficult. I do actually love blockbusters, but that decision has a lot that comes with it that I'm not prepared to go with."

Actress Lupe Ontiveros died Thursday night from cancer. She was 69. Though the name may not jump out at you, you will easily recognize her face in such films as Selena, The Goonies, As Good As it Gets, Real Women Have Curves and her role as Juanita 'Mama' Solis on Desperate Housewives, among more than 100 acting credits.

Videos, Clips and Trailers

Premium Rush is a month away from arriving in theaters, thus Sony has released this new TV spot titled Feel the Rush.

A new behind the scenes featurette for The Expendables 2 shows some stunt footage and Sylvester Stallone talking about how great the movie is. The Expendables 2 arrives in theaters August 17.

The first full trailer for Silent Hill: Revelations arrived online this afternoon. The film is a sequel to the 2006 film and hits theaters October 26.

In case you missed it, Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis stopped by The Daily Show and, to quote Ferrell, "when you bring a Jon Hamm into a situation, things just happen."

Will Arnett hosts the first episode of Boys Minute. The clip is a response to Amy Poehler's Smart Girls at the Party videos.

If celebrities can read mean tweets, then surely actors can perform dramatic readings of bad Yelp reviews. Here Chris Kipiniak from The Good Wife and Law & Order gives a dramatic reading for a 1-star review for Stratford Diner.

Pics and Posters

Nine new Frankenweenie character posters have made their way online. Frankenweenie arrives in theaters October 5.

The Campaign is starting to get ugly. Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis deface their opponent's billboards. The Campaign is in theaters August 10.

Speaking of Ferrell, he's pretty much fed up with Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe. Here's a note he left on the CBS This Morning white board.

End of Watch released six new pics of stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena and Anna Kendrick. The police drama arrives in theaters September 21.

Here's the new poster for the Gerard Butler surfing drama Chasing Mavericks. The film arrives in theaters October 26.

Seriously, a Fast 6??? You ended that series so well, why can’t Hollywood just leave well enough alone and make something new for a change? I know the talent is out there, stop under estimating the GP, Hollywood, and give us new stuff! Stop giving us the same c**p in a new wrapper, we do notice.

Oh relax what can happen Audra McDonald became the first black woman to play Daddy Warbuckss faithful assistant Grace in the spectacular 1999 Wonderful world of Disney tv movie production of Annie and she did a great job. Plus that one was much better than the movie 30 years ago

I beg to differ. Making Annie PC by sobering up Ms. Hannigan and making Grace black? Seriously the movie is set in the 1930s, I’m sorry but no black woman would have been hired as a personal assistant at that time. It’s amazing a woman was hired. I understand wanting to provide strong role models for young women, but we cannot misrepresent the past to do so. The past is the past, we must learn from it not cover it up if we want to continue moving forward as a culture.

Excuse me but Audra McDonald was a broadway newcomer at the time with 3 tony awards at this time and who knows why they wanted her but it was an event in Annies now 35 year history. Kathy Bates played Miss Hannigan. The film also featured a cameo by original Annie Andrea Mcardle, who's daughter is best friends with the star Alicia Morton

I never said Audra McDonald didn’t have talent. Talent is not the issue. The issue is misrepresenting a time period for fears of offending people.

Well she was not trying to besides some movies back in the 30's casted blacks in sterotypical jobs and being a personal assistant was one of them. And I'm sorry for misinterpreting what you said. Also Audra Mcdonald upstaged Kathy Bates as the standout of the adults in this version. She had a good voice, good lucks and a real smile. Something that brings out the best of me
