Box Office: Who Will Win The Weekend (9/25-9/27)

Okay, I admit it: I completely bombed out last week. I had a bad day – my mojo was off, the dog ate my brain and, well…insert lamer excuses right here. See, I totally thought you all would pony up the cash to see Megan Fox tear boys apart in Jennifer's Body, but that was not the case. I was, however, correct in predicting Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs at the top of the box office – though when it comes to J-Body, I guess it's more enticing to watch the hot girl being chased by the monster instead of watching the hot girl become the monster.

 
 
Anyway, let's start over. Here's what's hitting theaters this weekend:
 
Fame
What's the Scoop: A semi-quasi remake of the 1980s movie-musical, Fame follows several students at the New York Academy of the Performing Arts as they strive to make a living in the arts.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: It's full of the kind of young talent that stretches across all ethnicities, though a real lack of star power could turn some kids off.
 
Surrogates
What's the Scoop: In a near future world where humans live in isolation and use surrogate robots to interact, Bruce Willis plays a cop who's forced to leave his home for the first time in years in order to investigate a series of surrogate murders.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Is there another actor working today who plays "cop" better than Bruce Willis? And hey, maybe all those Fifth Element fans have been itching for Willis to return to sci-fi and will therefore cough up the cash to see this flick. Ya never know…
 
Pandorum
What's the Scoop: A pair of crew members on a spaceship wake up with no memory of who they are or what their mission is. Oh, and according to the commercials, there's "something else" onboard along for the ride.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Those looking for sci-fi/horror scares will choose this flick over the relatively tame (and PG-13) Surrogates, and, heck, I'd see anything with Ben Foster in it – that guy is a force to be reckoned with.
 
My Prediction: This is a tough weekend to predict because I wouldn't exactly count out Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs following its fantastic run last weekend. That said, I think the two sci-fi films will cancel each other out and Fame will emerge victorious.
