William Fichtner is 'The Lone Ranger' Villain, Idris Elba to Portray Nelson Mandela

William Fichtner has signed on to replace Dwight Yoakam as the villain in Disney's big-budget Western The Lone Ranger.

Yoakam had been set to portray Butch Cavendish, the no-good rascal who leaves John Reid (Armie Hammer) for dead only to pay for his mistake when an American Indian named Tonto (Johnny Depp) comes to Mr. Reid's aid and helps him become the masked avenger known as The Lone Ranger.
Fichtner's name in one that you might not recognize at first glance, but one look at his face will have you saying, "Oh yeaaah, that guy." He's appeared in numerous films (Heat, Armageddon, Black Hawk Down) and television series (most notably Prison Break). He most recently starred as the scene-stealing villain in the Nicolas Cage flick Drive Angry 3D.
In other words, Fichtner is a great addition to this A-list cast which includes Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Wilkinson and Barry Pepper, along with Hammer and Depp.
The Lone Ranger is set to release May 31, 2013.
Idris Elba, who can currently be seen in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, will begin filming Long Walk to Freedom, an adaptation of Nelson Mandela's autobiography. The book and adaptation will highlight Mandela's early life, coming of age, education and 27 years in prison.
No director has been chosen to helm this project, though The King's Speech's director Tom Hooper was linked to the project following his Oscar win last year. Those talks have since dropped off.
Regardless of who climbs into the director's chair, Elba is certainly a more than capable actor, already having shown great range in his prior projects.
What do you think? Can Elba pull off playing Mandela?
