There is such a stylish simplicity to Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur poster. It beautifully illustrates the tale – in a basic way – of Arlo, a lost apatosaurus and Spot, the orphaned cave boy. To celebrate the upcoming release of Pixar’s latest, create a special personalized version of The Good Dinosaur poster using your child’s own handprint!
What you’ll need:
One large piece of poster board or thick white paper (nonglossy or use the nonglossy side)
Dark blue paint
Blue paint (a shade lighter than the dark blue)
Bright green paint
Paint brushes
Pencil
Directions:
Step 1:Cut the poster board or thick paper into a rectangle if it’s not already. Paint one entire side blue. Before it has dried, use the dark blue, painting several inches from the edges, and blend the paint with the lighter shade of blue in the center. Let dry.
Step 2: Have your child put his or her hand on the center of the poster (with the paper in the vertical position). Using the pencil, trace the hand (leaving the bottom, where their wrist is, open).
Step 3: Sketch a simple outline of a dinosaur. Make the neck and head (on the right side) reach almost up to the top of the page. Draw the body around the hand outline making sure there is a margin between the edge of the hand and the edge of the dinosaur outline. Connect the edge of the dinosaur’s feet to the bottom edges of the hand outline (see the poster example above).
Step 4: Color in the dinosaur using the bright-green paint.
Step 5: Enjoy!
