Get In Character: Top 2008 Movie-Inspired Halloween Costumes
At a loss over what to dress up as this Halloween? Just look at your local cineplex marquee for inspiration. Movies never fail as costume fodder--remember Juno, Hairspray, Pirates and Harry Potter last year? This year, we asked 3,000 users to see which 2008 movie characters they'd most like to emulate--some of the answers come as no surprise, but a few might make you think twice about your own costume plans.
2008 Universal Pictures
Men: No. 5 - Indiana Jones
Indy's trademark fedora and bullwhip have always been popular over the years, and this year is no different.
2008 Paramount Pictures
Men: No. 4 - Lazarus
In Tropic Thunder, Robert Downey Jr. plays an actor so self-involved and Method-obsessed, he actually dyes his skin black to play an African-American soldier. We love Halloween as much as the next guy, but we're certainly not recommending you go THAT far.
2008 Paramount Pictures
Men: No. 3 - Iron Man
Downey Jr. hits this list twice, and while Iron Man was one of the year's most popular blockbusters, the costume might prove a bit more of a challenge than Kirk Lazarus. Unless, of course, you happen to have rocket-powered boots in your garage.
2008 Paramount Pictures
Men: No. 2 - Batman
Not surprisingly, Batman's batsuit made the list. Surprisingly, it wasn't No. 1. We're not blaming Christian Bale for that, though.
2008 Paramount Pictures
Men: No. 1 - The Joker
The year's No. 1 movie's most-hyped character ran away with our poll's top spot.
Want the rest of the guys?
6. Hellboy (Ron Perlman) in “Hellboy II:The Golden Army”
7. Harvey Two-Face (Aaron Eckhart) in “The Dark Knight”
8. Jigsaw (“Saw V”)
9. Simple Jack (Ben Stiller) in “Tropic Thunder"
10. Saul the Dealer (James Franco) in “Pineapple Express”
And now onto the gals...
2008 Paramount Pictures
Women: No. 5 - Bella
Heavy clothing, dark hair and vaguely goth makeup fits the bill if you're going as Bella from Twilight.
2008 Summit Distribution
Women: No. 4 - Gabriella
As giddy, giggly Gabriella, Vanessa Anne Hudgens was one of a bunch of dancing teens who swept the nation with the cornily charming High School Musical franchise. We're not exactly sure what her costume is, but just make it short and put on your brightest, whitest grin.
2008 Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
Women: No. 3 - Hannah Montana
Miley Cyrus took the world by storm with her Disney character Hannah Montana, and just try to find a tween girl who didn't see her Best of Both Worlds concert movie earlier this year. Now's their chance not just to imagine being her on stage, but to imitate her in real life.
Women: No. 2 - Fox
Everything Angelina Jolie wore in Wanted reflected her sexy hardcore assassin-ability...whether fatigue-y casual like this, with a gun holster slung around her hips, or leather motorcycle gear, or--nothing at all but some tattoos. Opt for the latter only you're an Angie look-alike or if you're really, really brave.
2008 Universal Pictures
Women: No. 1 - Shelley Darlington
Blame those ubiquitous girls next door, or Anna Faris's knockout performance as a dingy bunny who teaches a sorority house the art of seduction with lines like this: "The eyes are the nipples of the face." The House Bunny boasts the most popular costume--for better or worse.
