A Bullock Love Affair

This small town girl conquered the film industry with her witty, sarcastic, can-do-everything attitude. Swiftly becoming a rom-com favorite, Sandra Bullock tackled leading roles and surprised many with her Oscar award winning performance in The Blind Side. In honor of her latest film Gravity, we're highlighting some of her most memorable on-screen moments.

She became one of the top-grossing actresses of the ‘90s with her breakout role in Speed, in which she played Annie, the reluctant but capable driver of a runaway bus opposite heartthrob Keanu Reeves. This high action, box office hit is by no means considered a romantic comedy but the intense, heated chemistry between Reeves and Bullock made them the ‘it’ on-screen couple of the year.

After proving she could triumph over danger, Bullock charmed audiences in While You Were Sleeping. Playing a lonely fare collector on Chicago's 'L' train, she falls for a daily commuter. In a twisty turn, she ends up in a love triangle between him and his brother(Bill Pullman). Although the part was intended for Demi Moore, Bullock not only scored the role but also received a Golden Globe nomination.

A Time to Kill was Bullock’s third movie after Speed. She played a supporting role as know-it-all law student Ellen Roask. Based on John Grisham’s book, the film finds Ellen attracted to a married lawyer named Jake Brigance (Matthew McConaughey). They both end up working on a case representing an African-American man in the South against white assailants.

Just when you thought, “How is she going to top her previous male co-stars?”, Sandra Bullock delivered another successful but odd romantic comedy in Forces of Nature, alongside Ben Affleck. When an accident hinders takeoff, two strangers, Ben Holmes (Affleck) and Sarah (Bullock), find themselves forced to carpool together on one adventurous road trip.

Gracie Hart is the tomboy FBI agent who turns into a beauty pageant contestant in Miss Congeniality. She’s considered among her peers as tough, obnoxious, dorky, and aggressive. But being assigned to an undercover operation forces Gracie to sex it up as she competes for the title of Miss United States. The film was produced by Bullock and earned her a second Golden Globe nomination.

Two Weeks Notice found Bullock producing and starring with the king of romantic comedies, Hugh Grant. Lucy Kelton (Bullock) is a top-flight attorney for a prestigious commercial real estate firm. Over time, however, working for her boss George Wade (Grant) transforms her into an overworked nanny. When Lucy decides to quit her job, George begins to realize how madly in love he’s fallen with Lucy.

“Reunited and it feels so good…” After 12 years, Speed co-star Keanu Reeves and Bullock, the ‘it’ couple of the ‘90s, returned to the big screen in The Lake House, a remake of the enchanting Korean film IL Mare. Both fall in love through a series of love letters they mail to each other. When they discover, though, that they live two years apart, they set out on a journey to prove that love does conquer time and space.

As the fierce Editor-in-Chief of a publishing company, Margaret Tate (Bullock) is notified that she is being deported to Canada, her native country. Desperate, she forces her assistant Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) to marry her in order to avoid deportation. Forced to spend time together when the government begins to investigate, the two surprisingly begin to genuinely fall in love.

Working alongside Bradley Cooper, Bullock costarred and produced the comedy All About Steve. She played Mary Horowitz, a talented but creepy cross word puzzle instructor, who becomes obsessed with a CNN camera man named Steve. The hilarious tale follows Mary in her enamored quest to conquer Steve’s heart.

Bullock's surprising performance in The Blindside earned her an Oscar for best actress in a leading role. She stars as a tough as nails mother, who decides to help a homeless boy and eventually helps him become an All American football player.

Tom Hanks, Thomas Horn and Bullock star is this riveting tale about a young boy searching for a lock that matches a mysterious key left behind by his father, who died in the World Trade Center on September 11.

Earlier this year Bullock and Melissa McCarthy joined forces in the buddy-cop movie The Heat. The film follows an uptight FBI Special Agent and a foul-mouthed Boston cop as they attempt to take down a ruthless drug lord.

Alfonso Cuaron's space thriller Gravity might be Bullock's best film performance to date. The film tells the story of a medical engineer and an astronaut (George Clooney) who work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space.
