While you watched for colorful explosions in the sky this past weekend, there were even more explosions to be found at the movie theater, with Transformers: Dark of the Moon opening to record numbers. While the film’s 6-day, $181 million haul did not break any records (or beat out Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’s $214 million), its $97 million over the 4th of July weekend did set the all-time record, beating Spider-Man 2 ($88.2 million).

All of this came despite the fact that critics generally didn’t like Transformers 3, giving it a 38% Rotten rating over at Rotten Tomatoes and clashing with moviegoers yet again (users on the site have it at a 90% Fresh rating). Meanwhile, the equally-as-panned Larry Crowne wasn’t as critic proof, opening in fourth place to a somewhat paltry $13 million, even with the combo of Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.
Okay, we get it: Critics didn’t like either film. But what did you think? Here’s your chance to have a voice and rate the new releases as you see fit below. Feel free to elaborate in the comments as well.
