Here’s to original blockbusters! On Friday 73% of you picked Super 8 to win the weekend, and you were right on the money. The film many counted out because of its lack of stars and mysterious marketing campaign managed to kick those X-Men to the curb for a spot at the top of the weekend box office with Super 8 racking up $37 million, exceeding all expectations. X-Men: First Class dropped to second place with $25 million, while The Hangover Part II ($18.5 million), Kung Fu Panda 2 ($16.6 million) and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($10.8 million) rounded out the top five. The week’s other new wide release, Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer, scraped up $6.27 million for a seventh place finish.
