Well the good news is we both accurately predicted which film would win the weekend box office, as New Year’s Eve did, in fact, win over enough of you to push it past Breaking Dawn, Part 1 and into the top spot with $13.7 million. The bad news? Well, the bad news for Hollywood is that no one is going to the movies right now. Even though the holiday season is pushing full-steam ahead, the box office isn’t really going anywhere, churning out the worst numbers since 9/11, according to some reports. Is it the quality of the movies that’s keeping you away, or the holiday shopping? Regardless, we’re sure Hollywood is hoping you show up for their big holiday guns later this month, beginning with this weekend’s Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows and the third Alvin and the Chipmunks movie.

In other box office news, The Sitter didn’t do much worse, landing in second place with a paltry $10 million. Maybe folks are feeling a little tired of the R-rated comedy onslaught, or maybe they’re just tired of Jonah Hill. Even with the low numbers, folks still did manage to get out to the movies this past weekend, which is why we’re here to find out what you all thought of the new releases.
