The box office was crazy busy this weekend with three different new releases – appealing to three different sets of audience members – arriving in theaters, teasing you into your local multiplex with their cool, sexy, Smurf’d-up trailers and posters. While early estimates looked to have both Cowboys & Aliens and The Smurfs in a tie for first place (with $36.2 million), the latest, up-to-the-minute numbers show Cowboys & Aliens as the winner, just barely edging out those little blue dudes with $36.4 million (Sony says The Smurfs finished with $35.6 million). Meanwhile, this week’s perfect date movie, Crazy, Stupid, Love wooed enough folks to theaters to land it in fifth place with $19.3 million.
And that’s all well and good, but this post ain’t about numbers – it’s about you! What did you think of this week’s new releases? Cowboys & Aliens gave us the team of James Bond (Daniel Craig), Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) and Iron Man (director Jon Favreau), but even with all that it still just barely beat out The Smurfs, who haven’t been around since the mid-1980s.
