Though it's probably nowhere near a done deal yet, just the thought of Will Smith and Denzel Washington starring opposite one another in the same film should be enough to whet your appetite for more awesomeness. The project is a remake of the 1974 film Uptown Saturday Night, and it's actually been in development since 2002 when Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment first purchased the rights with an eye on Smith starring.

Now, though, Pajiba claims there's been more movement on it – that Warner Bros. and Overbrook are looking for someone to rewrite Mark and Robb Cullen's (Cop Out) script, and that Denzel Washington is now loosely attached to co-star. One imagines it all depends on the script whether or not both Washington and Smith will commit in full. The original film starred Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby, and revolved around two friends who must figure out a way to retrieve the wallet that was stolen from them at a nightclub because inside there's a winning a lottery ticket.

In the past folks have pitched this as an "all-black Ocean's 11" (even though that kinda implies that Ocean's 11 was all-white, which it wasn't), and when Smith first picked up the rights there was talk of Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy also starring. I assume they still want to put together that type of all-star cast (and I whole-heartedly welcome it with open arms), though it probably all rests with the script.

What do you think? Would Smith and Washington make for a great on-screen duo?
