The Hunt

Want to know what’s coming soon to digital and what to watch right now on FandangoNOW? Here is your weekly guide to the latest releases:

What are the latest new releases to watch right now?

Following its success in theaters and a special Home Premiere rental period, The Hunt is now available to buy digitally. The satirical thriller involves a dangerous game in which wealthy elites hunt humans. Betty Gilpin stars as one of their prey who not only attempts to survive but also turns the violent sport back on them.

The highly acclaimed indie drama Never Rarely Sometimes Always is also now available to own digitally. Winner of awards at Sundance and the Berlin Film Festival, Eliza Hittman’s movie follows a pair of teenage girls who take a trip to New York City after one of them unintentionally becomes pregnant.

Now available to either own or rent, Military Wives is the latest British comedy from Peter Cattaneo, the Oscar-nominated director of The Full Monty. Similarly based on a true story, the new movie is about a group of women who form a choir while their husbands are serving in the War in Afghanistan.

What movies are great to pair with those new releases?

Want to turn any of the above releases into a double-feature? I recommend pairing The Hunt with last year’s human-hunting horror-comedy Ready or Not and watching Eliza Hittman’s Beach Rats along with her latest, Never Rarely Sometimes Always. And, of course, you should pair Military Wives with The Full Monty.

Are there any other big movies coming out this week?

The High Note, directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night), arrives this Friday, May 29, as a Home Premiere release. The musical drama, starring Tracee Ellis Ross as a famous singer and Dakota Johnson as her assistant, will be available as a premium digital rental. If you pre-order, you can get a discount on additional films.

What movies are newly available as rentals?

In addition to Military Wives, other new movies available to rent this week include the documentary Funny Pains, about controversial comedian Wendi Starling, and the sing-a-long release of the animated feature Steven Universe: The Movie, based on the hit Cartoon Network series.

Can you recommend some great binge bundles to rent?

Dive into some classic movie franchises with binge bundles offering multiple installments of a couple of blockbuster favorites: all four of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies are available to rent together for less than $12, and all four of the Lethal Weapon movies can also be rented together for the same price.

As for three-pack bundles, I recommend the original Karate Kid trilogy starring Ralph Macchio, available to rent all together for under $7, the Men in Black trilogy, which is available to rent as a collection for under $7, and the trio of Austin Powers movies, which are available to rent all together for under $9.

Apollo 13

What are some great astronaut movies to watch?

This week marks the first time astronauts will launch into Earth’s orbit from American soil in almost a decade, so let’s celebrate the occasion with some movies about real NASA missions. Start with the space race classic The Right Stuff and follow with the biographical dramas Apollo 13, First Man, and Hidden Figures.

For real footage of those missions and others, I recommend the recent documentaries Apollo 11, about the first trip to the Moon, and The Last Man on the Moon, about the titular astronaut Gene Cernan. Also, check out the Leonardo DiCaprio-narrated Hubble, showcasing work on the titular space telescope.

Are we celebrating any big anniversaries this week?

Two Western comedies have anniversaries this week: Shanghai Noon, starring Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson, turns 20, while the time-travel movie trilogy-capper Back to the Future Part III turns 30. And the family films Madagascar and Casper, about the titular friendly ghost, turn 15 and 25 years old, respectively.

Going back further, the sci-fi sequel Beneath the Planet of the Apes and the comedy Watermelon Man both celebrate their 50th anniversaries, while the Chevy Chase-led comedy Fletch, the teen movie Just One of the Guys and Akira Kurosawa’s Shakespearean adaptation Ran all turn 35 years old this week.

Which must-see movies are coming soon to FandangoNOW?

Coming next month: You Don’t Nomi, a documentary about the 1995 movie Showgirls, and Think Like a Dog, a family comedy starring Josh Duhamel and Megan Fox, both arrive on digital on June 9. And Judd Apatow’s The King of Staten Island, starring Pete Davidson, makes its debut digitally on June 12.
