With VCRs no longer the mainstay in living rooms around the world, the Ring franchise is getting an upgrade for its return to theaters this fall. Back, of course, is the creepy recording that kills whoever watches it within seven days, and with it comes our girl Samara -- only now she's evolved with the times, going from VHS to digital.

Watch the new trailer for Rings (in theaters October 28).

This time around the story centers on a guy whose research into an underground recording that supposedly kills people eventually leads to his girlfriend sacrificing herself to see whether it's all true or not. Things then take a more contemporary turn when Samara's recording spreads, eventually finding its way onto the TV screens of an airplane and potentially to other places, too. Will the Internet be next?

Matilda Lutz and Alex Roe star along with Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden and Bonnie Morgan. Rings isn't the only familiar horror franchise returning this fall either, with a new Blair Witch sequel also set to drop on September 16 and another Saw film is currently on track to arrive in October of 2017.
