If you've seen an action film in the past 10 years, chances are it starred Tom Cruise, who returns to theaters this weekend in Edge of Tomorrow. The romantic heartthrob turned blockbuster star transformed his career with a number of knuckle-gripping action flicks — for many of which he performed his own stunts. Just look at the Mission: Impossible series. Remember when Cruise scaled the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the tallest building in the world, for Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol? We're still feeling queasy.
But Cruise took a back seat for a few of the stunts in the sci-fi actioner Edge of Tomorrow. His costar Emily Blunt matched Cruise’s enthusiasm for acting on the edge when she drove a car at breakneck speed. As the actress told Conan O'Brien, the first take of the driving stunt went off without a hitch. The second take, however, almost killed Blunt and her famous costar when she didn't hit the brakes in time. It all ended well, though. "He was actually laughing," said Blunt. "And I told him, I said, 'I thought you were being so annoying when you told me to say 'brake,' and I apologize.'"
Watch the video to find out exactly what happened. It will probably be the last time these two get in a car together.
