Ever since her breakout performance in Martha Marcy May Marlene, we haven't heard much about Elizabeth Olsen. In the fervor of awards season, the movie and her performance have been positioned as the quiet dark horse among Oscar contenders. While MMMM has scooped up a bunch of nominations/awards from various critics groups and four Spirit Award nods, the question remains, "What's next for Ms. Olsen?"
While she has a pair of dramedies and thrillers scheduled for release this year, first up will be a horror flick that was originally scheduled to be released last year. The movie is Silent House and stars Olsen as a young woman who gradually descends into madness while being trapped inside her family's lakeside retreat. The movie opens March 9.
Speaking of 2011 movies being bumped to 2012, you may recall those rather disturbing images of an emaciated 50 Cent that hit the web last year. It was all a part of 50 embracing his inner Christian Bale and dropping almost 60 pounds to play a college football running back who becomes stricken with cancer in Things Fall Apart. The movie is directed by Mario Van Peebles. The movie will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray next month.
Greg Kinnear and Alan Arkin reunite for this crime drama about a salesman whose search for a rare musical instrument sets off a series of dramatic consequences in Thin Ice. The duo starred in indie hit Little Miss Sunshine back in 2006. Thin Ice is directed by Big Love producer Jill Sprecher.
Finally, it's almost Oscar time. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences put out their first promo reel featuring Josh Duhamel and Megan Fox on a quest to find Billy Crystal. Along the way they meet Vinnie Jones and Robin Williams. The Oscars air on ABC, February 26.
