After making a successful commercial comeback with The Wrestler and subsequently re-igniting the career of one Mickey Rourke, a lot of eyes are on director Darren Aronofsky as he prepares to unveil his latest film, the psychological thriller Black Swan.
As such, the first trailer for Black Swan has arrived online and it’s definitely a doozy. In the film Natalie Portman plays a veteran ballerina whose life begins to slowly unravel when a rival dancer (Mila Kunis) enters the equation and threatens to turn everything upside down. And based on this first look at the film, “upside down” is a pretty good description of how I felt after watching it. Don’t think this is just some average flick about two ballerinas fighting for the spotlight. In fact, it’s anything but.
Portman looks like she’s found her most challenging role in years, and could easily walk away from this one with a tremendous amount of awards consideration. Meanwhile, the film itself looks deep, dark and brutal, with some pretty heady erotic undertones. And that kiss! Oh my! Maybe you should just watch this thing for yourself.
