2024 promises something for just about every horror movie lover. We're looking forward to favorite franchise reboots, sequels from old friends and new stories from emerging talent. Here are the top 15 films we're keeping an eye on, starting with June 28's A Quiet Place: Day One and July 5's MaXXXine. Dates are liable to change, so keep an eye on Fandango. Let's dive in!
1. A Quiet Place: Day One

We've been excited about this one ever since producer John Krasinski announced it at CinemaCon 2023. A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II showed us what happened when alien creatures came to a small, quiet farming town. What happened down the road in New York City? Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn are about to find out. Day One is a prequel to the first two Quiet Place movies, so don’t expect many familiar faces. The only returning actor who we can confirm at this time is Djimon Hounsou, who will presumably be giving us a little backstory for the man on the island he played in Part II.
Maxine survived a massacre in X. Can she survive seeking fame in 1980s Hollywood? And how does the title character from Pearl fit in to all this? Director Ti West and star Mia Goth are back to wrap up the trilogy, alongside Halsey, Michelle Monaghan, Elizabeth Debecki and many more.

Josh Hartnett stars as a dad who's taken his teenage daughter to a concert, which turns out to be part of an elaborate trap for a serial killer. The twist? Josh Jartnett's character is the serial killer. Will he be snared, or will he live to kill another day? It's an M. Night Shyamalan movie, so anything is possible.
The Alien franchise returns with a standalone feature following young adults who face off with a terrifying life form. We’ve seen some pretty scary creatures from the other films in the franchise, so we’re excited to see what the Alien: Romulus team has cooked up to top them.

Someone, somewhere must have said “Beetlejuice!” three times, because he’s back. (We will neither confirm nor deny being that “someone”.) Also back: Director Tim Burton; stars Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara and Winona Ryder; and composer Danny Elfman. They’re joined by the likes of Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci for what promises to be a frightfully good time.

In 1922, audiences were treated to the first on-screen appearance of the vampire Nosferatu. The silent classic was based on Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula, with a few name changes to cover up the fact that the filmmakers hadn’t actually gotten permission. Robert Eggers has demonstrated his mastery of atmospheric horror with titles like The Witch and The Lighthouse, and took on the challenge of giving Nosferatu a fresh look. Eggers’ version stars Bill Skarsgard as the titular vampire, Lily-Rose Depp as the object of his obsessive affections and Nicholas Hoult as the protagonist, the estate agent Hutter, and features previous frequent Eggers collaborators Anya Taylor-Joy, Willem Dafoe and Ralph Ineson.
If that director’s name rings a bell, there’s a good reason: Ishana Shyamalan is M. Night’s daughter. After writing and directing for television and serving as a second unit director on her dad’s recent films, she’s striking out on her own. The Watchers tells the story of a young woman stranded in a remote forest with strangers, trying to survive in a place where mysterious creatures prowl by night. Shyamalan has decribed it as a “gothic fairytale”.

It's such a simple plan: Kidnap an underworld boss' daughter and hold her for ransom overnight until the $50 million comes through. But there's something the captors don't know: This kid's a vampire, and she's not happy with the whole kidnapping situation. Will any of her captors survive the night? Abigail is based on old-school Universal monster movies like Dracula's Daughter, and it sits firmly in that universe. It’s directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (aka Radio Silence), the guys who directed the recent Scream movies, so they know a little something about taking a new look at the classics.

A group of young adults friends use the wrong tarot deck and start dying in ways that relate to what their readings foretold. Are their fates sealed, or can they change what’s in the stars?

The thing about imaginary friends is, they’re supposed to be imaginary. One woman’s old imaginary friend never quite got that message. When the woman returns to the house where she grew up, she discovers that her childhood imaginary friend is actually real – and really, really upset about being abandoned all those years ago.
We’ve heard many a horror movie character warn, “Don’t go in the water at night,” but those are usually about open bodies of water. In Night Swim, the aquatic terror haunts a backyard swimming pool. Night Swim is produced by James Wan and Jason Blum, so you know you’re in for a scary good time.
These movies are having the finishing touches put on them. We don't have exact release dates yet, but we can make some educated guesses.
12. Witchboard
Expected: Mid 2024 Director: Chuck Russell Stars: Madison Iseman, Jamie Campbell Bower, Charlie Tahan
One assumes that the original Witchboard (1986) doesn’t exist in the world of this fresh reimagining. If it did, then Emily (Madison Iseman) might have known not to pick up that old board that was used to summon spirits. Concerned, her fiancé teams up with an occult expert to get to the bottom of what’s vying for Emily’s soul.
13. Return to Silent Hill

Stars: Jeremy Irvine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Eve Macklin
The Silent Hill franchise reboots with the story of a man names James, who’s lured back to his former hometown with the promise of reuniting with his lost love. The town he returns to appears to have undergone some terrifying changes since he was last there. Or is it that the town is the same, but it's his mental state that’s gone off the rails?
14. Out Come the Wolves
Expected: Late 2024 Director: Adam MacDonald Stars: Missy Peregrym, Joris Jarsky, Damon Runyan
In this survival thriller, three people on a hunting trip encounter a pack of wolves that are not happy about having them in their remote area.

15. Jordan Peele's fourth movie
Release Date: TBD
Writer-director Jordan Peele's fourth film was on the slate for December 25, 2024, but appears to have been pushed back to 2025. Or maybe 2026. We'll keep you posted. Peele is typically quiet about upcoming projects, and we can’t wait to find out what he’s got in the works this time!
