Earlier this morning, we shared the first trailer for The Butler, a movie that could potentially be contending for some awards later this year and into 2014. Giving that film some competition could be Paul Greengrass' latest, Captain Phillips, which stars Tom Hanks as freight ship captain whose vessel is hijacked by Somali pirates.

Based on a true story that made headline back in 2009, the film finds Hanks' Captain Phillips giving himself up in exchange for the safety of his crew. Mixed in along with what looks to be a brave performance from Hanks is urgent, tense and exciting action sequences that Greengrass has developed over this directing career, including two Bourne movies, United 93 and Green Zone.

Could this film be a contender during awards season? What do you think of the first trailer below which premiered on The Guardian?
