Want to know what’s in theaters this week? Catch these exciting new releases on the big screen:

Uncharted marks the spot exclusively in theaters this weekend. The long-awaited video game adaptation stars Tom Holland as treasure hunter Nathan Drake, while Mark Wahlberg co-stars as fellow gold-seeker Victor “Sully” Sullivan. In their first cinematic outing, the duo embarks on an action-packed adventure to find long lost riches from the 16th century Magellan expedition. But it won’t be easy with adversaries played by Oscar-nominated actor Antonio Banderas and Tati Gabrielle after the same loot.

Also out this week is Dog, starring Channing Tatum and a trio of Belgian Malinoises, all of whom take turns playing the titular pup, Lulu. The buddy comedy marks the joint directorial debut of both Tatum and writer-producer Reid Carolin (Magic Mike). It follows a U.S. Army Ranger with PTSD who is reluctantly tasked with escorting the military working dog down the West Coast to attend the funeral of her handler. Fun fact: the movie is inspired by Tatum’s relationship with his own beloved pet, also named Lulu.

Need a quick recap of the past week in movie news? Here are the highlights:

Star Trek continues: Going on six years since the release of Star Trek Beyond, the next feature installment of the Star Trek franchise has announced a start date. According to Deadline, Paramount will begin production on Star Trek 4 in late 2022 for a December 2023 release. Cast members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and Simon Pegg are all expected to return for the sequel, which will be produced by J.J. Abrams and directed by WandaVision helmer Matt Shakman.

Sonic the trilogy: Speaking of Paramount move sequels, the studio announced a third installment of their Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, ahead of the April release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Deadline reports that Paramount is also making a spin-off TV series focused on the character Knuckles, who is voiced by Idris Elba in the upcoming follow-up. While no other details are known about Sonic the Hedgehog 3, we can probably expect the movie to arrive sometime after that series, which is due in 2023.

Another Quiet Place: Here’s one more announced Paramount sequel. Not to be confused with the previously reported spin-off feature due in 2023, A Quiet Place Part III has officially been greenlit for a possible 2025 release. According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Krasinski, who directed the first two installments, personally made the reveal. But he did not mention if he would be back at the helm for this next one. However, presumably, the movie will again feature his wife and original co-star, Emily Blunt.

Jack Quaid joins Oppenheimer: Speaking of Emily Blunt movies, Christopher Nolan has made another addition to his next project. Deadline reports that Scream actor Jack Quaid will co-star in Oppenheimer alongside Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh and Cillian Murphy, who leads the ensemble in the titular role of atom bomb developer J. Robert Oppenheimer. Other recent additions include Dane DeHaan, Matthew Modine and Josh Hartnett. Neither their roles nor Quaid’s have been identified as of yet.

Simu Liu teams up with Barbie: In other casting news, Marvel actor Simu Liu is in negotiations for the Warner Bros. movie Barbie, based on the iconic toy doll. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star would play an undisclosed part opposite Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. Oscar-nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig is directing the picture, which also recently brought on actresses America Ferrera and Saturday Night Live regular Kate McKinnon.

John Cena to jam with the Looney Tunes: With his star rising thanks to his roles in the DC Comics adaptation The Suicide Squad and its TV spinoff, Peacemaker, John Cena is entering another major Warner Bros. property. Deadline reports that the wrestler-turned-actor has been cast as the human lead in the Looney Tunes movie Coyote vs. Acme. The live-action/animation hybrid, due in theaters in July 2023, will focus on the titular cartoon character in a legal battle against Cena’s businessman.
