It’s exciting that a big Marvel movie (Thor: Ragnarok) and a big DC movie (Justice League) are arriving in theaters only two weeks apart, and fans may find even more exciting to learn that director Taika Waititi managed to celebrate the occasion by slipping a little DC crossover item into his Thor film… kind of.
The Shake Weight is actually a DC crossover,” Waititi fold Fandango during a recent interview ahead of the November 3 release of Thor: Ragnarok.
Wait, Shake Weight? What?
For context, there is a scene in Thor: Ragnarok where Karl Urban’s Skurge is bragging about the items he brought back from his visit to Earth, and one of those items happens to be a Shake Weight.
“Oh, that’s my Shake Weight,” Waititi said. “That’s mine, and that was something I bought while I was in Green Lantern.”
Yup, Taika Waititi is in 2011's Green Lantern.

Stick with us here…
“So I was in New Orleans and I was in Green Lantern, but I was barely doing anything,” Waititi explained. “I’d be in my hotel room and it’d be like 1am, and the infomercial for the Shake Weight came on. I was like, “Screw it! I guess I’m buying everything I see on TV tonight – I’m gonna by knives and some sowing thing. I bought exercise DVDs, too, but the one thing I bought that I kept was that Shake Weight… and then I had it shipped to Australia and I put it in the movie!”
Taika’s Shake Weight was not in Green Lantern, but he’s chalking this one up as a crossover since it was something he brought from the DC set to the Marvel set.
Something else he brought was himself, too. In fact, a more legit crossover may actually be Taika, as the director acted in both Green Lantern and Thor: Ragnarok (as the voice of Korg), making it so he technically crossed over from one brand to the other.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, and Justice League arrives on November 17. You can snag your tickets for both superhero blockbusters right here at Fandango.
