The Sundance Film Festival may be this magical land full of new movies you’ve never seen or heard of until your local news does a puff piece about celebrity parties, but it really is one of the most important film festivals in the world. Last year over 40 films were sold at the festival based in Park City, Utah, with many of them landing in theaters throughout 2011 (and some, like Martha Marcy May Marlene, now up for big awards). This is a festival that will ultimately help shape the movies landscape over the next year (or two), and that’s why we pay so much attention to what’s screening there.
