After a false-start rumor that Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow would take the stage at Comic-Con and be announced as the director of Star Wars: Episode IX, Disney has finally made it official at its D23 Expo, which is basically the company's own Comic-Con.

Trevorrow directing is essentially the only news around it. Disney did not reveal a subtitle for the movie or for Rian Johnson's Episode VIII. We do have this quote from Trevorrow about taking on the job, though.

“This is not a job or an assignment. It is a seat at a campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, filmmakers, artists and craftspeople [sic]. We’ve been charged with telling new stories for a younger generation because they deserve what we all had—a mythology to call their own. We will do this by channeling something George Lucas instilled in all of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope.”

Disney also unveiled a first cast photo for Rogue One (seen above), which is no longer being called Star Wars Anthology but "a Star Wars Story." Not pictured in the cast pic are Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen and Alan Tudyk (who will be playing a mo-cap character).
