We're still nearly a month away until the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but here are some clips and other goodies to satisfy some of your anticipation today:
C-3PO and R2-D2 Meet BB-8
Here's one of the big moments we've all been waiting for, and it comes early in the form of an ad for U.K. mobile phone service provider O2. The beloved droids of the first six movies, R2-D2 and C-3PO, meet everyone's favorite new character, BB-8, to let us know the company is giving away tickets to the Force Awakens premiere.
First Clip from Star Wars: The Force Awakens
We've seen plenty of trailer and TV spots for the new movie, but this is the first isolated clip from The Force Awakens, courtesy of the ABC network. It's a familiar bit, now with dialogue, as Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and BB-8 run from danger toward a quad jumper they hope to escape in. Who or what are they fleeing and who or what destroyed that vehicle they sought? We'll find out in a few weeks.
Google Awakens the Force Within
Google has gotten on board the Force Awakens promotion train with the launch of Star Wars-themed experiences of its products. First, join the Light Side or the Dark Side and then see what that does to your Gmail, Google Maps, etc. In addition to that, we can look forward to a virtual reality series involving the Millennium Falcon for Cardboard, plus promises of many hidden Easter eggs. Watch a neat video for the promotion below.
J.J. Abrams Promises Fewer Lens Flares
Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams is well-known for his use of lens flares in his movies, and is mocked regularly for it. But in a conversation with Stephen Colbert at the Montclair Film Festival over the weekend, Abrams revealed that he held back this time, in part because his wife said "enough!" "As you’ll see in the Star Wars movie, I’ve allowed lens flares to take a very backseat,” he told Colbert (as quoted by /Film). “We’re making sure that it looks photo-realistic and photo-real, but every time there could be a flare — because you know, I like to do that a lot — I would say ‘These are not the flares you’re looking for.'”
Colbert then pointed out that there are three lens flares in the Force Awakens trailer. See if you can spot them below.
