Warner Brothers succeeded with Harry Potter, Lionsgate/Summit are currently rolling in the dough from two franchises (Twilight & The Hunger Games) and now Sony is looking to get in on the YA book-to-movie adaptation game.
The studio is gearing up for the release of what they hope will be the next mega-movie franchise with The Mortal Instruments, a six book young adult sci-fi fantasy series written by Cassandra Clare. Five of the novels have been published with the sixth one due out in March 2014.
The first film is an adaptation of the first book in the series, titled City of Bones, which was originally published back in March 2007.
The series takes a familiar premise – a beautiful, young heroine, in this case Lily Collins, who finds out certain truths about her past and bloodline and battles demons in a quest to rescue her mom, who happens to be a "shadowhunter." Of course, there's a lot more going on than just that.
Are you a fan of The Mortal Instruments series? Are you looking forward to the movie adaptation? Check out the teaser trailer below and then sound off with your thoughts on the first look footage. Does Clary Fray look like how you imagined she would when you were reading the book?
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones will be part of next year's summer movie season as it hits theaters on August 23, 2013.
