For those who were brave enough to endure Home Alone 4, you might have thought that was the end of the franchise. Well, apparently not as ABC Family is moving forward with Home Alone 5. The fifth installment in the franchise will completely scrap Kevin McAllister from the franchise and instead rely on Finn, an eight-year-old played by Christian Martin.

From there, the story pretty much plays out like the previous four films. Finn will be trapped in an old, creepy house with his sister while their parents are marooned on the opposite side of town. A character twist has been added in which entails Finn believing in ghosts and setting trap to catch said haunts in his house. So when thieves come around, the traps are already set.
 
Home Alone 5 is set to air on ABC Family next December as part of the network's 25 Days of Christmas holiday promotion.
 
 
The Cat in the Hat Gets Animated
 
 
Thanks to the success of The Lorax, another popular Dr. Seuss book is getting the animated treatment.
 
Deadline reports that Universal is developing a 3D CG-animated feature film for The Cat in the Hat. In 2003, Universal adapted the book into a live action film starring Mike Myers and barely broke even, grossing $133 million worldwide.
 
A 3D animated version of the book is sure to do bigger business than the live action version, but we'll have to wait and see if it can live up to the numbers put up by The Lorax, which has currently banked $133 million worldwide, and counting.

Jurassic Park Returns in 3D
 
 
Universal's been busy this afternoon. In addition to the news above, the studio has also pegged a release date for a 3D re-release of Jurassic Park. Fans of the 1993 Steven Spielberg sci-fi dinosaur adventure can relive the movie in 3D beginning July 19, 2013.
 
Re-releasing classic movies in 3D is nothing new, of course. Star Wars: Episode I and Beauty and the Beast are just two movies this year that have been re-released, with James Cameron's Titanic joining the list next month. The first movie in the trilogy grossed just under a billion dollars during its initial run.
