When Paranormal Activity shocked everyone by beating Saw VI at the box office this past October, there was a little excitement in the air – not only because Paranormal Activity was a cool, original scary flick, but also because it proved that Saw's reign on the Halloween box office had come to an end. So what does Paramount do next? Well, they load up their weapons for another go-round against the next Saw sequel, hoping to land a knock-out punch to that franchise with the next installment in what I imagine they hope will become a Paranormal Activity franchise.

To add insult to injury, Paramount even hired Saw VI director Kevin Greutert to helm Paranormal Activity 2, which will hit theaters on that much-coveted pre-Halloween weekend of October 22 right alongside Saw VII. Oren Peli, the director of Paranormal Activity, will only be producing the sequel, saying, "These guys get it, and the fans won't be disappointed." Naturally there's no word on what the film will be about or what it'll even be called, though one assumes there will be another ghost story involved and that it may take on that same shaky-cam sorta vibe.

Though I (like you) keep thinking about the horror show that was Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows, I'm sure all parties involved with Paranormal 2 will go to great lengths to make sure they're not rushing a sub-par sequel into production just to try to capitalize on the original. Here's hoping they get it right, because lord knows Hollywood has gotten it wrong so many times before.

What do you think? Can you see a Paranormal Activity sequel succeeding? Or are they just rushing this sucker into production just to try to make a profit off the original's great buzz?
