I'd love to be able to tell you stories about how awesome the Broadway musical Rock of Ages is, though problem is I'm not seeing it until February because that's when my tickets will allow me to see it. But, my little sister saw it from the second row over this past weekend and she hasn't stopped chatting up its ridiculous awesomeness, and so I feel safe in saying it's definitely a show you 80's kids don't want to miss the next time you pass through New York City.

And since Hollywood likes to turn every popular musical into a movie these days (see: Rent, Chicago, Nine, Mamma Mia!, etc …), they'll be doing the same for Rock of Ages, which Adam Shankman (Hairspray) will direct and choreograph, according to Variety. Warner Bros. will open the film at some point in 2011, with production beginning next summer.

The musical, in case you didn't know, follows the story of a couple who meet at a club called Rock of Ages, and then subsequently tries to stay together while rockin' out to a number of totally boss 80s rock anthems by groups like Journey, Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi, Joan Jett and more. There's currently no word on whether the musical's current cast – including break-out star (and American Idol contestant) Constantine Maroulis – will be involved in the movie, though folks around the country will get to taste a little of the 80s pie when the theatrical Rock of Ages rolls out nationwide real soon.

In the meantime, fans should prepare themselves for what Shankman calls, "Mamma Mia! for dudes." Um, wicked!
