The fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie steamrolled over the competition this weekend at the box office, putting up $90 million on the domestic front and $256 million worldwide, equaling an impressive $346 million total haul in just five days. Even though critics weren’t too kind to the Pirates sequel, it’s making some good money (and fans love it), so more sequels may be in our future unless Disney finds a new franchise to take its place.

Because the Pirates franchise has smashed a homerun at the box office its previous three times up to the plate, the other studios stayed away from the May 20th release date and just let it do damage all on its own. However, Bridesmaids continued to build off its positive buzz, beating Thor for a second place finish with $20 million. Thor ($15.5 million), Fast Five ($10.6 million) and Rio ($4.65 million) rounded out the top five.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was the only new wide release this weekend, though, so we’ll be concentrating on rating that one. Yes, we know critics were iffy about it, but what did you think? Sound off in our poll below with your thoughts on the latest Pirates of the Caribbean sequel.
