I’m sure tons of you tuned into American Idol last night to see which movie songs the final seven contestants chose, and what (if any) help writer-director Quentin Tarantino offered. Personally, I was a little let down by the song choices since almost all of them were slow, boring ballads. C’mon Idol contestants – all you had to do was watch an actual Quentin Tarantino film and you would’ve found tons of great, eclectic groovy tunes.
But no…instead they gave us snoozers like "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" (can we go back in time so I can miss this song?), "Everything I Do, I Do It For You" (not for me you don’t), "Born to be Wild" (yeah, if performed by Iron Maiden), "Have You Ever Loved a Woman", "Endless Love", "Falling Slowly" and "The Rose". I hate to say it, folks, but the song choices were kinda lame. And Tarantino? He didn’t do much except jump around the room as if a mouse was stuck in his pants.
Where were the real movie songs? Where was the hard stuff? Watching these kids last night almost felt like every movie ever made was a slow, weepy romantic drama. Where was all the fun? The dancing? The excitement?
But that’s just my opinion (and I’m nowhere near the world’s biggest American Idol fan) – so definitely tell us what you thought about movie song night on American Idol by voting in our poll below? Worth the watch or a bit of a let down?
