The road to staging a sequel to Paramount's best investment in the studio's history has finally been paved with a director. Earlier today Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli announced through the film's website that Kip Williams will direct the follow-up. Williams isn't too well known; he directed the festival darling The Adventures of Sebastian Cole back in 1998, and also the little-seen The Door in the Floor. I kinda like this move because a bigger, more notable name would've completely taken away from the cool, low-budget vibe folks fell in lust with in the first place.

'Paranormal Activity'

There's still no word on what the sequel will be about, and Peli – who's executive producing and involved with the story – wouldn't divulge any details. One assumes they'll play around with the way they film it; maybe take the whole "found footage" thing to another level. Should be interesting to see if they're successful, or if they'll fall into the traps set by Blair Witch 2 and just make it too over the top and nothing at all like the original.

Do you think Paranormal Activity 2 has a shot at being as successful as the first, or do you think the original was more of a box office fluke than anything else?
