If you're one of the hundreds of thousands of people who flocked to see movies like Transformers and G.I. Joe this summer, then congrats – it's because of you that Hollywood has become so obsessed with finding a way to turn every little toy into a feature film. The latest comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who tells us that Warner Bros. and producer Dan Lin have acquired the theatrical rights for a feature film about Legos.
The live action/CG hybrid is said to be in the same vein as movies like Toy Story; films that center "on the subject of childlike imaginations and examines themes of creativity and teamwork …" While it all sounds a little far-fetched (not anymore than giant transforming robots, I suppose), one could totally see this as being the next logical step after all those successful Lego video games like Batman, Indiana Jones and Star Wars swept through the marketplace and built up a pretty massive fan base. Seriously, do you know one little kid who plays video games and doesn't have at least one Lego-related game? I sure as hell don't.
So now that we know a Lego movie is on the horizon, where can Warner Bros. go with this? Are we talking a room full of Legos that magically come to life and go on some adventure in the real world, a la Toy Story? Or is that concept too old by now? And furthermore, which cool, famous Legos should be included in the movie? You think there's a chance we'll see a Batman and Robin Lego make an appearance since Warners owns the screen rights for that property?
