The Lifeboat: Joe Wright, who's best known for his classy literary adaptations Pride & Prejudice and Anna Karenina (above), is in talks to direct The Lifeboat. Anne Hathaway is set to star in the period drama, which follows a young newlywed who survives a shipwreck in a tiny lifeboat, only to find herself on trial for murder in 1914; it's based on a book by Charlotte Rogan. Urban Cowboy: John Travolta and Debra Winger starred as a romantic couple in 1980's Urban Cowboy, based on a magazine article about the oil boom in Houston during the late 1970s. Now Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow) is on board to write and direct the pilot episode of a possible TV series that would focus on "rodeos, oil refineries, line dancing clubs and other aspects of modern-day Texas." We're guessing that a mechanical bull will figure into the show as well. [Variety]
