Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark: Guillermo del Toro will develop Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, with an eye toward directing the movie. John August has written the screen adaptation, based on a popular trilogy of books by Alvin Schwartz that features illustrations by Stephen Gammell. The filmmaker is already attached to direct a remake of Fantastic Voyage, among other projects, so it's not clear when this one might be made. [Deadline]

 

Ridley Scott

Alien: Covenant: Director Ridley Scott is preparing to shoot Alien: Convenant, the next installment in the sci-fi series, and made his intentions clear about the adult tone of the movie he'll be making. "I’m going to do pretty hard R, pretty tough," he said. Referring to the infamous kitchen scene in Alien, when a creature bursts out of John Hurt, Scott said: "I'm going to try and do that again, but much worse." [Collider]

 

Sex Tape

Jumanji: Jake Kasdan (Sex Tape, above with Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz) will direct a remake of 1995's Jumanji. A new script has been written by Scott Rosenberg (Gone in Sixty Seconds) and Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), based on the novel by Chris Van Allsburg about a magical board game. Sing Street

Sing Street Trailer: The terrific first trailer for Sing Street rewinds to the U.K. in the 1980s as a young band comes together. The movie is from director John Carney, who also made the very good musical dramas Once and Begin Again, and stars Aidan Gillen, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Jack Reynor. It's set to debut at the Sundance Film Festival this month and will open in theaters later this year. [Movieclips]
