Sucker Punch Zack Snyder brings us this "original" story about a girl shipped off by her evil stepfather to an insane asylum to be lobotomized so she can’t tattle on him for killing her sister. While inside, Babydoll’s (Emily  Browning) imagination turns the asylum into a bizarro ‘40s style dancehall/brothel where she and several other prisoners plan their escape and engage in fantastical anime-style battles against Nazis and monsters.

Okay, so a movie that’s complete fantasy inside one character’s head may seem like a cheat, but Snyder’s movie is pure eye candy with some breathtaking visuals. It's gorgeous and creative enough that you'll forget it's basically a remake of  One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest with homages to Quentin Tarantino, Sailor Moon and Tekken-style fighting.  Extras: Theatrical PG-13 version and the extended R-rated version with 17 more minutes of footage as well as four animated prequel shorts and "Sucker Punch: Behind the Soundtrack" (DVD/BD); the BD also includes a two-hour-plus "Maximum Movie Mode" with director walk-ons, picture-in-picture commentary, storyboards and an interactive gallery. Season of the Witch Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman are ex-Crusaders disenchanted with the Church’s policies who embark on a bold journey to transport an accused witch to a remote monastery where she'll be cured of her witchy-ness. When a secret the girl has been keeping comes out, the knights come face to face with a terrifying supernatural force that threatens the world. You will, repeat, WILL laugh out loud at some of the cheap effects (a firestorm looks like orange ribbons flapping in front of a wind machine), and Nic Cage’s acting is decidedly on the campy side, but all that makes it pretty funny even if unintentionally so. Extras: Alternate ending, deleted scenes, making-of featurettes (DVD/BD); the BD adds commentaries.
The Warrior’s Way Jang Dong-gun throws it all in as the world’s most dangerous swordsman and hand-to-hand fighter to start a new life in the American West after refusing to kill an infant belonging to his enemy clan. It isn’t long before his old enemies hunt him down in this hokey martial-arts-meets-cowboys CG fest. Extras: Deleted scenes, making-of footage (DVD/BD).

The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy Extended Editions It’s been eight years since the final in this franchise was released, and fans of Middle-earth have been waiting patiently all this time for a complete, extended, high-def set of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King (the 2010 BD set offered only theatrical versions). In this box set, each movie is split into two BDs with new scenes edited in to bring your total movie viewing to some 11 hours, every minute of which you’ll find yourself wanting to jump into your TV set to breathe the air atop New Zealand’s mountains, hike with Frodo through its lush green forests and swim in the rippling rivers. Buyers beware, however: all nine of the extras discs are on DVD only, NOT Blu-ray, so if you’ve already got the DVD set released in 2004 it’s the same stuff—the only thing new is the high-def transfer of the movies. Extras:  Behind-the-scenes footage, documentaries on the adaptation process, making-of documentaries, art galleries, interactive maps of Middle-earth, audio commentaries and digital copies of the films.
