A special congrats goes out to actress Natalie Portman, who just debuted her brand new movie-related website during the Tribeca Film Festival this past weekend. MakingOf.com was created by Portman and Christine Aylward as a web portal that "provides an intimate, fresh look into the process of creating entertainment by the insiders themselves."
A quick scan of the website reveals new interviews with Portman herself, as well as Ron Howard, John Krasinski, Michel Gondry, Jason Bateman and Olvia Thirlby – not to mention various chats with producers, composers and other industry professionals. From the looks of it, Portman and Aylward have created an arena where you can learn about films from the people who make them, which could prove to be a neat little corner of the web for those who, like me, tend to turn into complete nerds when it comes to learning more about the film process. Personally, I’d love to see them feature older, archival interviews with writers, directors and actors talking about some fan favorites, like maybe Star Wars, The Godfather or Gigli.
(And yes, I was kidding about that last one.)
In addition to the interviews, MakingOf also provides areas for new trailers, information on upcoming films and an interactive community where folks can discuss and share their film geekdom with like-minded individuals. No word on how active Portman will be on the site – whether she’ll interact more with readers or what have you, but so far it seems worthy of a daily click.
What do you think?
