Wes Craven's hopes for a fifth Scream movie seem pretty dim but that doesn't mean the franchise is going away. MTV announced that they are developing a television series based on the film franchise.
There's no word on if Craven will be involved, but enthusiasm for the franchise seems to be waning. Scream 4 was the first film in the series to fail to crack the $100 million mark worldwide. Domestically, it didn't even do half of what Scream 3 pulled in.
MTV has been branching out into original programming recently with an adolescent version of Teen Wolf. It's likely a televised version of Scream will not feature the film cast, but rather a group of young, hot eye candy caught up in a world of horror irony.
