Tiffany Haddish Girls Trip

The Lego Movie 2: Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip, above) has joined the cast of The Lego Movie 2. She will voice a new, key character in the animated sequel. Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks will reprise their roles as the heroic lead characters, with Will Arnett (Batman), Channing Tatum (Superman) and Jonah Hill (Green Lantern) all set to reprise their voice roles. Mike Mitchell is directing; the movie is scheduled for release on February 8, 2019. [THR]

 

Spice World

The Spice Girls: Just over 20 years ago, the Spice Girls played themselves in the musical comedy Spice World (above), which earned more than $100 million at the box office. Now they are ready to make their return to the big screen. If things work out, the five performers will star in an animated superhero movie, each voicing a character that features a unique "girl power" unique to that member of the group. A production partner is currently being sought. [Variety]

 

The Help

Chastain and Spencer: Michael Showalter (The Big Sick) will direct a holiday comedy starring Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer, who previously teamed in The Help (above). They will play two women who battle the elements so they can make it home for Christmas. Peter Chiarelli (the upcoming comedy Crazy Rich Asians) will write the screenplay, based on a treatment by Chastain and Kelly Carmichael. [Variety]
