For the most part, 3D concert movies have been a box office success, not to mention, easy money for movie studios.

Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Michael Jackson and Justin Bieber have all undergone the 3D treatment and have collectively brought in over $450 million worldwide. In fact, the only dud of the 3D concert movie genre thus far was last year's Glee, but even that made over $18 million against a $9 million budget.

So it almost makes sense that Katy Perry takes her show to the big screen. Her core fans consist of teen girls, the same demographic that made Bieber, Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers films successful. On top of that, she's a top-selling act, her performances are colorful and visually lend themselves to a cinematic experience.

Paramount initiated the talks with Perry's people, as well as with Imagine Entertainment to create a documentary-style film. Negotiations are still in the early stages and no director has been brought on board, but insiders say that both sides are eager to make the movie and it's just a matter of ironing out the logistics.
