We've still barely seen any footage from the new Ghostbusters, which arrives in theaters this summer. A teaser (see below) finally dropped two days ago advertising that a full trailer will come next month, but it didn't show us very much. Over the weekend, however, the annual Toy Fair held in New York featured a booth showing off the reboot's officially licensed action figures from Mattel, including a brand new bad guy.
In a video taken at the Ghostbusters toy display, a representative points out the four women Ghostbusters, all resembling their respective actresses, and a few random little mini ghosts, including the new Slimer. Then there's a winged creature, presumably a bad guy, called Mayhem, and a cartoony-looking main villain referred to as Rowan.
You can watch the video below, and you'll notice that Rowan looks an awful lot like the white ghost in the iconic Ghostbusters logo, which has been retained for the new movie. But he also has a red bow tie, making him also slightly resemble the Boo Berry cereal mascot. Bow tie ghosts seem to be common in clip art, as well.
In toy form, the character doesn't look too menacing, but should he be terrifying? The original movie featured a giant marshmallow man and a hardly developed big bad who was quickly disposed of. And the new movie, written and directed by Paul Feig, should be an even more comedic take on the property than the first two. This goofy ghoul seems rather appropriate.
Here's a still image of Rowan shared by the same guy who made the video, via Instagram:
