She may not have gotten the lead in Hunger Games, but Deadline is reporting that True Grit breakout star Hailee Steinfeld is attached to a revised version of Sleeping Beauty. Granted, with Alice in Wonderland grossing over a billion dollars worldwide last year and three Snow White movies hitting the screen soon, it was only a matter of time before other well-known fairy tales got the revisionist treatment. Let's not forget Channing Tatum's Peter Pan reboot and that there's another Sleeping Beauty movie with Tim Burton rumored to direct and Angelina Jolie coveting the role of the witch.
Unlike the Burton-Jolie version which aims to tell the story from the wicked witch's point of view, this new version will be told from Sleeping Beauty’s point of view as she enters into the dream world and has to find her way out. Steinfeld showed some serious acting potential in Grit so it’s hard to argue against this casting and it’s likely this script won’t be sitting in Hollywood limbo for long.
