With production right around the corner, Warner Bros.' other big upcoming superhero movie is beginning to take shape. We already told you that Blake Lively was joining The Green Lantern as love interest to our super hero (played by Ryan Reynolds), and now producers have tossed out an inspiring (not to mention fantastic) choice for the villainous role of Dr. Hector Hammond: Peter Sarsgaard.

Peter Sarsgaard

In my opinion, Sarsgaard has always been a little shifty, and he's great at playing those roles that start off as good guys before slowly turning bad. Here, Sarsgaard will be playing a pathologist and the son of a senator who has always viewed him as a disappointment. However, when Hammond discovers a meteor that gives him psychic powers, things obviously turn in a different direction and the only one who'll be able to put a stop to his menacing ways will be The Green Lantern himself.

Ah, but this won't be the only baddie Lantern will have to contend with, as the more popular Sinestro still hasn't been cast. In the comics, Sinestro is a former mentor of Hal Jordan (aka Green Lantern) who becomes power hungry and turns evil. He's the last piece of this puzzle, which will eventually reach the big screen (under the helm of Martin Campbell) on June 17, 2011.

Do you think Sarsgaard is a good choice? Who do you think should play Sinestro? And do you think Green Lantern will do as well as the other big superhero movies, seeing as regular moviegoers aren't as familiar with the superhero's mythology?
