It was a big day for fairytale casting in Hollywood, as two upcoming movies signed actresses for two big roles. First up, it’s now official that Julia Roberts will play the Evil Queen in The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, which is completely different than Snow White and the Huntsman and Snow and the Seven, two other Snow White movies that are also gearing up for production. Directed by visual genius Tarsem Singh, The Brothers Grimm: Snow White will be a grittier retelling of the classic Snow White fairytale. Roberts is the first to sign on, though with production set to begin next month we should expect our Snow White to be cast soon.
Meanwhile, Famke Janssen has been cast as the leader of the witches in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, which will star Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as a grown-up Hansel and Gretel who have made a life for themselves as witch hunters. Their story will pick up 15 years after their daring escape from the gingerbread house, and we imagine they’ll be hunting some nasty witches throughout the film.
