Ok, I know Indiana Jones just made a successful return at the box office, and Stallone managed to revive both Rocky and Rambo (and all in less than a 2 year time span). But should Eddie Murphy really come back to the Beverly Hills Cop franchise? What do you guys think, yay or nay?

ImageThe word from Variety is that Eddie is already attached to BHC 4, and Brett Ratner is in negotiations to direct. After hearing that the Rush Hour filmmaker dropped out of helming the potential Robert Downey Jr. Playboy pic, we're not sure this is exactly good news to have him pop up again with this project...

Bottom line: when should a movie character call it day? Beverly Hills Cop is one of my all-time favorite movies, capturing Eddie at the absolute peak of his comedy genius. Cop 2 isn't half-bad, either, with lots of distracting visual flash from director Tony Scott, and Murphy still in fine, funny form. But the third entry seemed a bit forced, and as the saying goes, it may be best to sometimes leave the classics well enough alone.

The upside? It would be great to have Eddie back in tip top shape, and in something other than the family comedy genre. Also, unlike Ford and Stallone, Murphy looks as spry now as he did in the '94 threequel. Here's hoping for a good screenplay, a re-engergized Eddie, and maybe some other directorial candidates. Look for Cop 4 to shoot in 2009 and in theaters summer 2010.
