It looks like TRON 3 is officially off the grid... or release schedule, at least.
Disney has decided to pull the plug on the TRON: Legacy follow-up only a couple of months after the film looked like it was officially happening. Both Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde were set to return alongside Legacy director Joseph Kosinski, with production to begin this fall. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the film -- and franchise? -- has been scrapped, with no reason given.
Word is the weaker reception to Tomorrowland may have played a factor in Disney's decision, though fans are trying their best to change the studio's mind. A Change.org petition is currently circulating with over 13,000 people asking Disney to change its position on TRON 3.
You can follow its progress here -- and who knows, maybe we'll see the grid light up again sometime in the near future.
