Is it time again for another Cinderella tale to hit theaters? Apparently so, since Deadline reports that the Mouse House has made a deal with screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna (27 Dresses, The Devil Wears Prada) to write an updated live-action re-imagining of Cinderella. The deal comes after Tim Burton's updated 3D Alice in Wonderland went absolutely nuts at the box office. One expects this new version of Cinderella to also go 3D, though there's no word on that front just yet. The move comes as several studios look to stage remakes or re-imaginings of other classics, like The Wizard of Oz over at Warner Bros., and an adaptation of the Broadway show Wicked over at Universal.
Meanwhile, in case you didn't already expect it, Disney has announced that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be filmed in Disney Digital 3D, making it only the second Jerry Bruckheimer production to utilize 3D (his other 3D movie was G-Force). The good news here is that it won't be converted in post-production – a move I was surprised we did not see with Disney's upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time – which means the fourth Pirates installment should look better than those other 3D films converted after the fact, like Clash of the Titans. Surprisingly, though, even with them shooting the film in 3D, it's still scheduled to reach our shores on May 20th, 2011. Am I worried about them attempting to piece this entire production together in only one year? Kind of … but we'll try not get ahead of ourselves just yet.
