Comic-Con International got its 2017 edition off to a roaring start today with an extended look at Kingsman: The Golden Circle, but even before that began, selected attendees enjoyed an advanced look at a trio of hot horror titles last night.
It
Known as "Preview Night," Wednesday evening provided an opportunity for horror-movie fans to get excited as three upcoming thrillers were previewed. It came first. Based on Stephen King's massive novel, the movie was directed by Andy Muschietti, who presented a new clip (after an introduction by King).
Then the young stars were introduced and they presented another new clip, featuring a brief look at the evil Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard), followed by a new trailer. We're hoping to see these all videos soon. It opens in theaters on September 8.
The Nun
That was followed by the first footage from The Nun. Another spin-off from The Conjuring franchise, The Nun stars Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene. In their report, Dread Central suggests that the footage sets up the titular nun (Bonnie Aarons) as a very spooky presence. The movie is headed for release on July 13, 2018.
Annabelle: Creation
The next spin-off in The Conjuring horror movie series is set after Annabelle but before The Conjuring. According to Deadline, director David F. Sandberg said he wants to take the franchise in a new direction. The thriller stars Miranda Otto, Stephanie Sigman and Anthony LaPaglia. The entire movie was screened, though the crowd was sworn to secrecy (we imagine). It opens wide on August 11.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle
A new trailer dropped this morning, but that was just a prelude for a full-on panel discussion that began with an unexpected crossover with a hilarious animated FX series.
The opening scene of the movie was shown, prompting an enthusiastic response.
