Around the time that Bruce Campbell was promoting the Evil Dead remake (which he helped produce), the conversation usually drifted around to whether “The Chin” and former collaborator Sam Raimi would get around to doing more movies with Campbell’s beloved character Ash in the lead. The actor teased and teased… and today, he kind of confirmed.

According to ComicBook.com, Campbell was onstage at the Wizard World Nashville Comic Con where he was asked by a fan if he and Raimi finally were going to do Army of Darkness 2

“The last one was 22 years ago,” Campbell joked. “I just haven’t been racing to do it. Sam Raimi is just a little bit busy making the biggest movies in Hollywood. I use to be busy. Now I’m not. That’s why I’m here.”

Noting his obvious age (a little long in the tooth to chase demons with a chainsaw), Campbell continued, “Ash would have to stop occasionally from chasing some Deadite to catch his breath. Maybe we could do that, I guess. That would be exciting. Fight in a walker. That would be alright. Hit them with my cane. Fake them out, have a fake heart attack, distract a zombie. I like it.”

But it seems like Campbell might have been stringing the crowd along, because he eventually got serious and said, “Alright sir, the answer is yes.”

Is he kidding? Confirming? Hard to tell with Campbell, who is perpetually sarcastic. But Raimi has been kicking around an Evil Dead sequel for some time, and talk when the reboot emerged surrounded Ash teaming up with the younger generation of evil warriors in a crossover type of adventure.

Here’s what I can tell you. After helming Oz the Great and Powerful, Raimi has more clout than ever before in his career… and, according to IMDb, no projects on his docket. Will he resurrect the Army of Darkness for a second pass with Campbell? Time will tell.
