Now that we're out of October, it's time to push full steam ahead into November with not one …not two …not three…but four new releases. If you can't find anything to tickle those movie tastes this weekend, then what sort of strange movie tastes do you have? Let's take a closer look…
What's the Scoop: Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt voice our two main characters, who play a supervillain and superhero, respectively. But when our supervillain finally defeats the superhero, he finds life isn't as exciting without someone to do battle against.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Next to Pixar, DreamWorks tends to put out some solid animated efforts (see How to Train Your Dragon from earlier this year), and so keeping that in mind – plus the fact that the superhero genre is hot right now, and that Brad Pitt is teaming up with Will Ferrell – this seems to be a surefire hit at the box office.
What's the Scoop: James Franco stars in this real-life story about an avid mountain climber who's forced to cut off his own arm after getting trapped between two rocks while hiking.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Four words: Lots of Oscar buzz.
What's the Scoop: Robert Downey Jr. stars as a guy who's desperate to get from Atlanta to Los Angeles before his wife gives birth, and Zach Galifianakis plays the extremely weird dude he's forced to road trip it with.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: The film comes from the same guy (Todd Phillips) who directed The Hangover, Old School and Road Trip, which means we should expect plenty of R-rated jokes and foul-mouthedness throughout. Considering The Hangover was one of the most lucrative R-rated movies of all time (and Downey Jr. is Iron Man!), this one may do pretty decent business.
What's the Scoop: Tyler Perry returns with this adaptation of the famous play about the different issues that impact women, particularly women of color.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Tyler Perry has a massive fanbase, and his films always do well at the box office. Expect this one to be up near the top of the charts come Monday, thanks, in part, to an outstanding ensemble cast of strong actresses.
My Prediction: It's a very busy weekend, and literally any one of these films could take the top spot. I feel it's ultimately a race between Megamind and For Colored Girls, and I'm going to go with the former because after a month full of scares, the little ones are probably itching for a real big-screen treat.
