In The Maze Runner, a group of kids -- on foot -- struggle to escape a crazy maze full of scary creatures trying to kill them. In honor of the film's heart-pounding chase sequences, we selected some of the best on-foot chases the movies have to offer.
The Bourne Identity (2002)
Matt Damon kicked off this action franchise in style with a chase sequence that's both exciting and kinda chill. Watch as Jason Bourne calmly escapes a snafu while throwin' his fists down on whoever gets in his way.
The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)
By the third Bourne movie, it was time to kick things up a notch… literally. In one of the series highlights, Jason Bourne leaps from rooftop to rooftop, crashing through windows along the way. Our body aches just watching this scene.
District B13 (2004)
David Belle helped introduce the movie world to parkour in this 2004 French action movie about an undercover cop who infiltrates a gang in hopes of diffusing a ticking bomb. The movie was remade in the U.S. as Brick Mansions, starring Paul Walker.
Fast Five (2011)
The rooftop chase sequence is a popular one in action movies, and we're totally fine with that because they're always fun to watch. Like this sequence from Fast Five, which injects the flavor of Rio and its unique neighborhoods directly into this heist escape featuring Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster.
Last of the Mohicans (2002)
The thrilling finale of Last of the Mohicans features a resilient and badass Daniel Day-Lewis as he races up, down and along a cliff -- all while obliterating bad guys with a variety of weapons.
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
The opening of Raiders makes for a unique on-foot chase sequence because, first, Indiana Jones is being chased by a giant boulder. Once he manages to allude it, the adventurous archeologist must then escape a bloodthirsty tribe during a race across an open field.
Casino Royale (2006)
Our first action-packed introduction to Daniel Craig's new, rebooted James Bond came during this Bahamas-set sequence, in which Bond chases his suspect through a construction site, then up a crane, across a rooftop, down an elevator shaft and out on to the busy streets. Double O whoa!
Bad Boys (1995)
No list of awesome on-foot chase sequences is complete without at least one Michael Bay movie. We like this scene from Bad Boys, where Will Smith busts out of an apartment building in hot pursuit of these dudes who just shot up the joint and took the girl he was protecting hostage. Most notable in this moment is Smith's bare chest, which almost feels like its own character as he races to save the day (and the girl).
Hot Fuzz (2007)
With Bad Boys, Michael Bay set an action precedent that helped inspire a lot of movies that came after, including action comedies like Hot Fuzz. We adore this chase sequence featuring Simon Pegg's vigilant cop character, especially all the little comedic moments ("Ah, mothers!") that pop up along the way.
Point Break (1991)
If you're listing the best on-foot chase sequences, then you most definitely cannot leave off this memorable moment from Point Break, where Keanu Reeves chases a bank robber in a Ronald Reagan mask through a suburban neighborhood -- and fails to get his man.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
In order to get away with skipping a day of school without his parents knowing, Matthew Broderick must beat his folks -- and his revenge-hungry sister -- home during this epic on-foot race through backyards and over fences.
That Tom Cruise Movie
It's hard to single out one specific Tom Cruise movie when it comes to on-foot chase sequences, because it seems like the guy is always running from someone or something. So, instead, please enjoy this awesome supercut of Tom Cruise running.
