As a mother, it’s incredibly special when you can share events and experiences with your child. Sometimes they can be small moments, like treating them to a double scoop of ice cream with extra sprinkles or a trip to the Lego store, or letting them watch not one movie but two in a row. Then there are those BIG moments, like taking your kid to a movie premiere with an after-party in Disneyland. Yeah, that happened.

My 9-year-old daughter escorted me to the recent world premiere of Tomorrowland that featured movie stars on the blue carpet, a family-friendly flick and an epic party in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland. She’d never been to something like this before and there was much energy spent on finding the perfect dress, the perfect nail polish and the perfect hairdo. So what did this young film fanatic think?

The Blue Carpet:

"It was so cool! It was really crazy with ALL those people along the sides waiting for the movie stars and taking tons of photos. It made me feel so special, like I was a movie star too! I was surprised that so many people were there. There were like thousands and thousands of people! Well, actually, I think there were 1055 people there. That seems about right. People were yelling names at the stars walking in but I didn’t know who they were. I think a lot of them were waiting for the main actor guy [George Clooney]. I did get to meet Olivia Holt [Disney Channel] before the movie! My mom thought it was cool because we were sitting by some actress she liked a lot when she was a teen." [Yes, Molly Ringwald had seats right near us]

The Movie

"The movie was soooooo good. It’s now one of my favorite films ever. I want to see it again and again and again. The girl Casey was really great. I laughed a bunch and I even cried a tiny bit, but not too much. The graphic stuff was really cool and I loved that Casey was into science. Just like me! And the movie had a good message. I liked that."

The After-Party at Disneyland

The Food

"They had the food places open and you could order what you wanted and also, what was really cool was that you could get free churros and pretzels! I only got one churro, my mom wouldn’t let me get more than one…but now I wish I got more. For dinner I had a burger and fries and afterwards we went to the dessert table that had all these really yummy things. My favorite was this tower thing that was like white chocolate and this dark chocolate inside with some kind of berry. But all the desserts were really good and really pretty!"

The Vibe

"I liked seeing all the people dressed up for the party and being in Disneyland in party dresses. Mickey was there again! But this time he was wearing a space suit. And Buzz Lightyear was there too. There was also a trash can that moved around and talked to people. I petted it and it purred!

"And I met the main girl from Tomorrowland – Casey (Britt Robertson). She was really nice and I took a selfie with her. We were both talking to the trash can, which was funny. I’ve never met a movie star before and she was so nice. There was this one section that we couldn’t walk into that had a bunch of people in suits there and the main guy from the movie and the lady he was with [Clooney and wife Amal] was wearing a really cool red dress."

The Rides

"We could go on any ride we wanted without waiting in line! Star Tours, Space Mountain, Autopia...they were open just for us. It was weird being in Tomorrowland with not many people there, but really cool! And when we went on Space Mountain, right behind us was the girl who played Athena [Raffey Cassidy] and some famous guy riding in front of us [Kevin Dillon]."

Final Thoughts from Mom:

After all that, when I asked her about her favorite thing about the premiere, her answer was, “the movie, it was really good!”
